Cut the Rope 2 comes to Google play

ZeptoLab's Cut the Rope 2 has arrived into Google Play. Just like the original game, your goal is to feed delicious candy to Om Nom by cutting the many ropes that some evil being (game creator) has used to keep the poor creature hungry. Collect as many stars along the way as you can. The Game is hours of fun, and absolutely free to play.

Cut the Rope 2 expands on the originally by adding more. There are more puzzles, more colors, more variety, and more characters.

The gameplay is fun, and it's all a whole lot of fun. So soon grab it on google play.

New HTC One Review (M8)

The original HTC One was the company’s first major push into an all metal body construction, milling out a single block of aluminium for what was a pretty striking phone. But the new HTC One is futuristic. More metal. A more impressive design. A bigger display. The new HTC One is, quite simply, the best smartphone HTC has ever made.

The new HTC One is a tad bigger than the old HTC with a 5 inch Super LCD3 display at 1080 p with 441 ppi, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It’s nearly a full centimetre taller, a couple of millimetres wider and just about as thick, though that’s tempered by the slope to the sides.

The M8 is just as beautiful as its predecessor. It uses a gorgeous all-aluminium body which flaunts a similar curved backing. The M8 also feels superbly solid, strong, and well-constructed.

The M8 runs Google's Android 4.4.2 operating system, the latest iteration from the tech giant. KitKat brings a cleaner, less cluttered layout, tighter integration with Google search, plus faster performance. Layered on top of that is HTC's most recent revamp of its Sense UI, version 6.

The new HTC One packs in some of the fastest smartphone internals available in early 2014.Its backed up by an ample 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and 16 or 32 GB of internal storage and a micro SD slot for expandability. It’s powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU (MSM8974AB), one of the latest and greatest from Qualcomm. But China and some other parts of Asia will get a slightly faster 2.5GHz model — still a Snapdragon 801 .It has a 2,600 mAh battery with “EXTREME POWER SAVING MODE!!!”.

The handset has the same 4 MP ultrapixel camera but has sensor at the top of the camera. It's a depth sensor that, when used in tandem with the main camera lens, is able to calculate the distance of subjects in your image. HTC's Duo Camera, however, eliminates the need for these separate modes because it takes just one image and uses the image's depth information to determine which part of the photo to keep in focus.

The new HTC One Boomsound speakers is more powerful than before. HTC says total output is about 25 percent louder, thanks to a new amplifier and some extra space carved out behind the speakers. Sound also is slightly more full. You've got a whole new sound palette to play with as well.

As for BlinkFeed, the One now offers more ways to customize it and increases the number of social media services it works with. Through a partnership with Foursquare, BlinkFeed also suggests restaurants based on the time and location. 

HTC has added some additional functionality to the lock screen in Sense 6. You’ve got the usual app short-cuts — by default they’re phone, HTC text message app, HTC’s browser and the camera — which you can open directly from the lock screen.

Motion Launch is the new hotness, and it comprises five actions that will wake the phone:

• Double tap the display to wake the phone.
• Swipe left to “wake the widget panel,” which means open to the home screen.
• Swipe right to wake the phone and launch BlinkFeed.
• Swipe up to simply unlock the phone and return to whatever you were doing when it went to sleep.
• Swipe down to wake the phone and turn on voice dialing.

The new HTC One M8 is one heck of a handsome device, the sexiest smartphone I've seen all year in fact (including the Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2). While HTC's latest creation is more conservatively-styled than the previous One, it has a look that's just as premium.

Japanese Internet Giant Aquires Viber For $900M

Rakuten Inc,one of Japan’s largest Internet companies, which offers services from financing to shopping to online video on its e-commerce platform, the largest in Japan, has announced that it will acquire messaging app Viber for $900 million.The internet giant explained that the acquisition would help the company become a platform for digital content, not just a provider of free voice calls and messages.

Viber is one of the top most downloaded smartphone phone call and messaging apps, and counts the United States, Australia and Russia among its biggest markets.Viber competes with instant messaging apps such as WeChat, a unit of Chinese Internet firm Tencent Holdings Ltd, U.S. rival WhatsApp, and Line, owned by Korean company Naver Corp .

The Rakuten-Viber pairing may pose a significant challenge to Line, which announced that had 300 million registered users back in November 2013 and is aiming for the 500 million milestone in 2014. Like Line, Viber users can also purchase and send stickers to one another, and it recently added Viber Out, which enables free calls to mobile and landline numbers, making it a rival to Skype. Viber’s apps do not currently have games, one of Line’s key draws, but CEO Hiroshi Mikitani hinted that games are part of Rakuten’s future plans for the messaging service.

The acquisition by Rakuten is expected to be completed by the end of March, both companies said.

NVIDIA Unveils Tegra K1, A 192-Core Super Chip

NVIDIA also has some great new things to unveil at CES 2014, and among them is the Tegra K1, their latest processor. Making a huge jump from the Tegra 4 the all new Tegra K1 brings 192 cores to the game. This chip, which NVIDIA calls a super chip, will be fully programmable by applications, and will allow all of the cores to be used in parallel making it more efficient.

The chip is based on the Kepler technology which will be able to bridge the gap between many of their products all while giving the best experience to every user. Kepler -- first introduced in desktop and notebook systems, and later brought to workstations and supercomputers -- is the world's fastest and most energy-efficient GPU architecture. Tens of millions of Kepler-based graphics cards and systems have been shipped, including the GeForce GTX 780 Ti.

The Tegra K1 processor sets new mobile standards by supporting the latest PC-class gaming technologies, enabling it to run sophisticated gaming engines like Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4. It delivers advanced computation capabilities to speed the development of applications for computer vision and speech recognition. And its extraordinary efficiency delivers higher performance than any other mobile GPU at the same power level.

Tegra K1 is offered in two compatible versions. The first uses a 32-bit quad-core, 4-Plus-1™ ARM Cortex A15 CPU. The second version uses a custom, NVIDIA-designed 64-bit dual Super Core CPU. This CPU (named "Denver") delivers very high single-thread and multi-thread performance. It is based on the ARMv8 architecture, which brings the energy-efficient heritage of ARM processor technology to 64-bit computing. 

NVIDIA will tell more details on the chip in the coming months.

Google acquires Bitspin, developer behind Timely alarm clock

Google has reportedly acquired Bitspin, the Swiss company best known for its beautifully designed Android alarm clock app Timely. Timely quickly became one of our favorite alarm clocks on Android as much for its beautiful design as its functionality and simplicity . And the hard work appears to have paid off, as developer Bitspin has announced on its website that it is "joining Google.

Bitspin announced the move this week in a blog post, seeking to assure users that the acquisition won't mean Timely is winding down anytime soon. "For new and existing users," Bitispin writes, "Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support."

And given Google's precedent for acquiring and killing off or neglecting beloved services, the assurance of continued operations is certainly a welcome one. Timely is available for free on Google Play, and all previously paid in-app purchases for new themes have been made free.

Nexus 5 Review

Google isn’t really trying to build the best Android phone. What it’s trying to do is get the internet, Google-style, in as many hands as possible, and it realises the way to do that is to produce its own affordable, desirable handset. Google’s Nexus 4 started something – something big. And with the Nexus 5 the search-giant has taken its vision of how Android should look and function on a smartphone several steps further, adding in better spec, new hardware and a raft of new features. 

The vanilla (or stock) Android is becoming more friendly and the Nexus line growing more accessibly, these products have always garnered attention from tech-savvy enthusiasts more than average smartphone buyers. The new Nexus 5 with KitKat aims to revamp Android’s basic phone and SMS experiences, while making it easier to get to use Google Now, one of the platform’s greatest assets.

Unlike the LG G2, upon which its hardware is said to be based, the Nexus 5 keeps its buttons and ports in the usual, sensible places. Power lives on the right, a little higher up that before; volume is on the left, micro USB down below and headphone jack up top. On the bottom of the phone is the USB connector, and two sets of speaker holes. A round LED notification light is placed below the display, while the sensor array and the front camera sits above it.

The Nexus 5 comes with an IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and pixel density of 445 ppi. The display comes with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 protection making it resistant to scratches. The Nexus 5’s 4.95-inch, 1080p IPS LCD is big, bright and beautiful, and while it might not be able to unseat the HTC One’s SuperLCD3 or the Galaxy Note 3’s Super AMOLED in terms of contrast and vibrancy, it’s a great-looking display regardless.

The Nexus 5 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU, which is just about the fastest chipset you’ll find in any Android phone right now. That’s paired with an ample 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of internal storage. The former gets you 12.55GB for your own stuff, the latter provides a more roomy 26.76GB. The Nexus 5 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera. Also lurking inside the N5’s chassis is a 2,300mAh battery and Qi wireless charging receiver.

There are some changes made in kitkat. The first change that you'll notice is the transparent status and navigation key bars at the top and bottom, making the Nexus 5's screen look bigger and brighter. The Android 4.4 KitKat lock screen also features a small camera button, which helps in opening the camera app via the lock screen widget directly from the lock screen.

The most obvious refinements in KitKat are visual — it’s lighter, flatter and more colorful, in contrast to the dimmer sci-fi stylings of Honeycomb through Jelly Bean. However the prevailing “Holo blue” text, icons and accents that dominated Android 4.0-4.3 have been all but eliminated. The result is not just an Android that’s brighter, friendlier and more accessible, but also an OS that looks a lot sharper.

Consider the three biggest app changes in the new OS version — the launcher, the dialer and Hangouts, the default SMS app — in Android 4.4, all three have been augmented with more Googley features.

Android 4.4 also includes a revamped Phone app that now automatically prioritises your contacts based on the people you talk to the most. And one of my favorite feature of the Nexus 5 is that you can also initiate voice search when it's in the unlocked state by simply saying, 'Ok Google’, followed by your command.

Google has also combined its chat service and the Messaging (SMS) app into one app, Hangouts. The app lets you chat with your friends who use the Hangouts (erstwhile Google Talk) service and send messages to contacts. For people who don't actively use Google's instant messaging service or Google+, there's no value add that the unified app offers. It could also confuse these users if they've got unkempt Google+ profiles as it lists Google contacts on top when you want to compose a new message.

WRAP UP: The Nexus 5 is an improvement over last year's Nexus 4. As a high-end Android phone, the Nexus 5 doesn’t exactly nail it in every category. However the price point, speed and quality of user experience makes the Nexus 5 a great device.
